Squaring Up A Pool Deck
Mark the two outside internals at 4 feet 1 2 m and 8 feet 2 4 m.
Squaring up a pool deck. Squaring the deck frame. Use the 6 8 10 or 3 4 5 rule to determine square or right angles in deck porch floor wall or roof framing or any other building framing or construction task. You can use any multiple depending on the size of your deck such as 6 8 10 in this example.
In the case of a square or a rectangle you will measure diagonally from corner to corner on both sides. These measurements should be equal. Once the perimeter boards are in place you can square the deck using two tape measures.
Measure the distance from one corner of the ledger board the rim joist attached to the house to the opposite corner on the outside of the deck. This will only work if the form you are testing has symmetrical geometry. Make sure that any humps in the wood are pointing up and that all the butt joints are tight.
Then measure the distance between the opposite two. Once this is complete your deck frame can be fixed into location. To check a single corner for square use the 6 8 10 rule or if the sides are too short use 3 4 5 technique.
Strike the two lines and screw or nail your noggins either side of the line. The rule based on basic geometry for a right triangle ensures that a corner is square. As long as your string crosses the full 18 of the pool and you continue the string through the center of the post you can get right angles by creating a 6 x 8 x 10 triangle.
